Day Six....

So Day 6 started off with....you guessed it.... FOG!!!  ugh

We took off and headed west to Montreal.  We took Rt 138 instead of the highway so we'd have some scenery.  It ran right along the river and was a very pretty drive.

By the time we arrived in Montreal the fog had burned off and it turned into an amazing day!  We checked into the hotel and headed out on the Metro (subway) to visit the site of the 1976 Olympics.

The velodrome has been turned into a BioDome

From there we went to the Olympic Stadium which seats 80,000 and is used now for sporting events, concerts, etc.

It also has the tallest leaning tower

We went up the tower and saw the whole village as well as a large portion of Montreal

We stopped by the Olympic Pool on the way out and a nice woman from France took our picture.

We decided to sit down for a proper meal tonight.  Found a place called BatonRouge that was amazing!  I had the best BBQ Ribs, Chicken Tenders and Garlic Mashed Potatoes

 

So that's all from Montreal.  Tomorrow morning we head for Kingston, Canada.

Day Five....

GOOD NEWS!!!
Today we woke to SUN! It was a perfect day here today.  75 and sunny. And needless to say I took ALOT of pictures...

We left the hotel on foot to walk to the bus station and saw this...

We caught our bus and arrived at Old Quebec City.  We entered through the St Jean entrance to the only walled city in North America

We also walked along the boardwalk and saw the Hotel Frontenac

It was a really good day today.  I'm glad I got to see Quebec and would definitely come back here again.


Tomorrow morning we leave for Montreal.

Day Four....

Once again we woke to fog....

Not as bad as the last couple of mornings but sure could have used some sun...

Gayla wanted to see a glassblower in Wheelock, VT so we headed that way.  As we neared Wheelock Gayla called the artist only to find she had moved her studio.  Caught pictures of this stream though

Leaving Wheelock we headed north to Canada.  Today was a long drive but when we saw this it was all worth it

We breezed through customs and finally, for the first time ever, we are in Canada!!!

The first stop we made in Canada was the Tourist Information Center.  There we met a wonderful woman who gave us maps with our routes highlighted both to Quebec and Montreal.  We forgot to ask her name but decided we would give her the same name as my GPS - Fiona. So here is Gayla and Fiona.

We made it to our hotel about 3:30 pm and walked over to get a bite to eat.  We are now settled in for the night and knitting/crocheting. 

I would like to give a HUGE THANK YOU to our Mom.  She got maps and tour books from AAA for us and they have proved invaluable!  THANKS MOM!!!

Tomorrow we are hoping to spend all day in Old Quebec.  We can actually see it from our hotel room as well as the St Lawrence River. Keep your fingers crossed we actually have some sun!!

Day Three...

Well our luck is just jinxed on this trip!


We awoke this morning to heavy downpours.  Yes, more rain.  I am so sick of rain! And fog.  Lots of fog!  Here's what it looked like as we headed out this morning

First on our agenda today was the Flume Gorge in the White Mountain National Park.  This was pretty cool although it decided to start POURING rain about 1/2 way through and I was a drowned rat by the time we finished the hike.  It was really pretty and I'd definitely do it again - preferably on a really nice sunny day!

We saw our first REAL color today!

Once we made it back to our car and dried off a little bit we headed out to conquer the Mt Washington Auto Road.  I imagined it to be an easy 8 mile drive up to 6,000+ feet.  This is the tallest point in New Hampshire.  Well we go there and the nice man at the booth advises us that the temperature at the summit is 47 F and there were 33 mph winds with 50 ft visibility.  

Let me tell you this.  The roads were nothing like I imagined.  They were VERY narrow and there were NO guardrails and the drop off was VERY steep!  Needless to say I didn't get any pictures but Gayla has agreed to share some she took.  I have very high praise for my sister.  She was very good about not gasping at the drop offs on her side of the car. LOL  I'm sure there are indentations of my grip in the steering wheel.

By the time we reached the summit the entire top was completely engulfed in fog.  You literally could not see anything.  It was such a letdown.  But all that said, I would definitely do this again!

Well it's 10:00 and I'm exhausted so going to turn in.  No early start tomorrow...yay!!!

We leave the country tomorrow and head for Quebec!  Look out Canada! Here we come!!!
